Messaging & voice
Starting a new conversation
How the New conversation picker works, and why participants need an account before you can message them.
Starting a new conversation
When you tap New conversation in Messages, the picker shows two sections:
Team
People in your organisation who have a Blumi login — admins, practitioners, and family/carers who have accepted an invite. Pick anyone here to start a 1:1 or group thread straight away.
Participants
Participants you support. A participant only becomes messageable once they (or their family) have an account linked to their profile — through an invite or an enrolment code.
- Linked participants are selectable. The conversation goes to the linked account (usually a family member or the participant themselves).
- Unlinked participants show an Invite first badge. Tap it to open their profile and send an invite or share their enrolment code. They'll appear as selectable once they sign in.
Why adding a participant doesn't automatically make them messageable
Adding someone in the Participants area creates their record — goals, behaviours, notes — but doesn't create a login. Messaging requires an account so messages land somewhere real.
Empty team list?
If the Team section is empty, invite a team member from Settings → Team.
